a lot of thoughts and nothing to say
I set myself up for a cadence of posting a new blog once a month. And here I sit, on the brink of October, with an open computer and a blank page before me. This month I have often found myself with a lot of thoughts and nothing to say. The theme continues.
I find it easiest to write about what’s hard. I fear being a downer. I also fear being dishonest. And this is where I get stuck. My life is surely full of joy. Not a day goes by where I remain unmoved by the beauty set around me, where I am not caused to consider the greatness of our God who has placed my feet in green pastures in which find rest. In the same breath, not a day goes by where I remain unmoved by the fractured nature of the world. There is space for both to coexist. And I am grateful that the joy he gives glimmers of an eternal hope, the lasting thing, while the suffering faced remains temporary.
I am exceedingly thankful that the Lord is my refuge. With him I am completely known and perfectly understood, entirely loved and fully justified. When thoughts are many, and when there are few, there is only one place for my heart to find rest. Where else would I go?
I am afraid this post may be rather short, for though I sit, pray, and contemplate, there is little coming to mind. After all, I am not one to say words for the sole purpose of filling space. However, I do know some words that will not return void I’d like to leave with you now:
I lift up my eyes to the hills.
From where does my help come?
My help comes from the Lord,
who made heaven and earth.He will not let your foot be moved;
he who keeps you will not slumber.
Behold, he who keeps Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.The Lord is your keeper;
the Lord is your shade on your right hand.
The sun shall not strike you by day,
nor the moon by night.The Lord will keep you from all evil;
he will keep your life.
The Lord will keep
your going out and your coming in
from this time forth and forevermore.Psalm 121
Maybe in October i’ll have more to say.
until then,
